1/28/2022 0 Comments New Feeder VisitorsThis week had some new visitors to the feeders: the Eastern bluebird and an American red squirrel. The bluebirds made everyone here at the library very excited because most of the staff had never seen one in person, so every time they were spotted everyone flocked to the window. For a while they stayed to eating the berries in the trees, but today two of them came to the actual feeders, so everyone could get a real good view.
Later in the afternoon a "baby squirrel" was spotted, but upon closer examination, Miss Renee determined it to be not a chipmunk, not a baby gray squirrel, not a baby at all but an American red squirrel. They're half the size of the gray squirrel and have very distinct coloring and a white circle around the eye. It was a fun sight to see, even if he was eating the birdseed. Below is the picture of the American red squirrel and we were unable to get a picture of the Eastern bluebird (but we've included a picture from All About Birds, a website by Cornell University).

12/9/2021 0 Comments A few birds from FeederWatch11/5/2021 0 Comments A Quiet WeekIt was a quiet week in the garden. Just the usual visitors: blue jays, mourning doves, sparrows, and other birds. The squirrels and the chipmunks. Gekko the cat did visit one day (yes we have discovered the cat's name) but in general the garden was quiet. The only new visitor we had was an opossum.
11/2/2021 0 Comments This week in the gardenLots of activity this week with the cleaning of the building and the Halloween Spooky Walk but there were a few critters who visited as well. This week we also captured a new visitor who we were surprised to see (2nd photo in right column)
10/22/2021 0 Comments Here's Who Visited this WeekIt's been a busy week with lots of birds, fighting squirrels, cheeky chipmunks and more. It's been a critter filled week. Here are a few highlights. Even at night the garden as active this week!
10/15/2021 0 Comments What's Happening this WeekSo we haven't posted in a bit, but the library has been busy with extra activities, planning future events and all kinds of things. Not that we aren't thinking about the garden. The seed pods on the Butterfly Weed have opened and the seeds are blowing away, much like milkweed seeds. The sneezeweed is still blooming, but even that is now starting to wane. Most of the flowers have begun their fall die back, seed dispersal and overall end of summer shindig.
Now that fall is finally on its way (can't really say its here as its still way to warm), we will be focused on FeederWatch. The birdfeeders just went up yesterday in preparation and the seed is arriving at the library. We've already had chickadees, tufted titmice, a woodpecker and plenty of house sparrows visit, as well a a few fluffy tailed squirrels. We've even put out a few leftover pumpkins from storytime to begin attracting our feeder friends. It's been nice to see the feeders active with birds again. We're going to have to keep a close eye on our feeders though. Our birds seem to have attracted another visitor; this little predator has been eyeing our feeders too. 9/17/2021 0 Comments This Week's Visitors9/3/2021 0 Comments Wildlife visiting the gardenWe've been taking some pictures of the animals visiting our wildlife garden. Both day and night time visitors seem to be enjoying the space.
8/24/2021 0 Comments HummingbirdsThe a few of the unidentified plants have bloomed and thanks to their blossoms, colors and a few visiting hummingbirds, we now know what they are! Cardinal flowers! We may have had to take in our feeders, but its clear the hummingbirds are just as happy with this natural food source!
